Yet another James Bond movie is on the works and will be gracing the silver screen on 2015. Daniel Craig has not expended his Bond appeal which qualifies him to return as the iconic British secret agent. The screenplay is by writer John Logan, the same literary talent that gave us Skyfall in 2012. He was commissioned by producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli to write a two-part Bond screenplay. Skyfall’s director, Sam Mendes, has been invited back to direct the 24rth Bond movie to which he accepted. He is best known for award-winning films namely the American Beauty which earned him best director awards from the Academy and the Golden Globe bodies.
The famous director has recently launched the stage musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Theater Royal in London on June 25. The director’s busy career prompted Mendes to prematurely decide on not being back for the next Bond movie. But, four months later, he has signed on to be behind the camera. “I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honor all my theater commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24. I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for the second time,” said the in-demand director. Mendes is also directing Shakespeare’s King Lear which is opening at the National Theater in January, 2014.
The invitation from the producers was influenced by the Skyfall’s box-office success. It became the highest-grossing Bond film in the United Kingdom in the fifty years of the iconic British spy movie. Worldwide, Skyfall grossed $1.1 billion to date. The movie was also recognized by the Oscars for best original song and best sound editing. Compared to Mendes’ second direction for the franchise, the 24rth Bond movie will be Daniel Craig’s 4rth heroic spy role. He joined the debonair ranks of Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan in the year 2005.
It’s been rumoured that Daniel Craig himself asked Adele to perform the next Bond theme, following the success of the Skyfall song. As for the cast, the producers have hinted that Quantum of Solace bond girl Camille Montes might get a reprise for the future Bond film. Meanwhile, Judy Dench’s role as M has been replaced by a much vibrant Ralph Fiennes which analysts say was a good move to entice a new generation of viewers.
